To all who lived before me, 2024

A series of small scale oil paintings, capturing moments in time. Using reference imagery from landmarks in my personal family history, significantly in Northern Italy, the works portray a blurry and fragmented view of the past, resulting in foreign bursts of memory.  The paintings are vaguely familiar, but never enough to know the whole story - each work only a moment in a complex, forgotten story - denoting the inevitability of disruption in one’s heritage.
The paintings act as flashes of memory received in a dream, or glimpses of a view out a moving train window - they are desperate attempts at finding oneself and rebuilding an already forgotten story.

Exhibited at Green Floor Gallery.
